In 2003 Food for the Hungry moved its headquarters from Scottsdale to downtown Phoenix, Arizona, to walk more closely with leaders and influencers so that physical and spiritual needs are met worldwide, beginning with our own home city. With the move a new program, City Initiatives, was launched with a desire to be a catalyst for social change and a champion for those whose voice isn't heard.
City Initiative's vision is that Phoenix becomes an example to other cities in our nation and throughout the world of the enormous potential when churches, city leaders, faith based and non-profit organizations work together in meeting the physical and spiritual needs of others.
Since moving to downtown Phoenix, Food for the Hungry has sought to serve the city by becoming a resource for international relief, development, and education. We take seriously our citizenship in Phoenix and in our ever globalizing economy and interconnected world; we understand all too well that many issues impact us all, whether we live in Africa, Asia, or Arizona. Our posture and attitude is one of service and we seek to focus our service on four distinct groups of people. They are as follows:
1. Government Leaders
2. Business Leaders
3. Church Leaders
4. University Leaders
We believe that when people come together, share resources and ideas, and seek to serve the greater good of a community, it is truly possible to change the world in sustainable ways. In 2007 representatives of these four sectors of society met at the headquarters of Food for the Hungry and the result was a strategic, collaborative effort launched to eradicate the sexual exploitation of children in Phoenix. In 2008 a documentary film, entitled "branded" was released with the purpose of educating and motivating people to speak out against child prostitution and sex slave trade of children.
